The Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), as the Co-Chair of the Integrated Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Training Group (IDDRTG), hosted the 20th IDDRTG Annual General Meeting on 4 – 5 March 2024. The meeting brought together IDDRTG members, including FBA, BICC, IPSTC, ARN, and UNITAR, alongside strategic partners such as the United Nations Department of Peace Operations (UNDPO), the African Union Commission (AUC), and the European External Action Service (EEAS). Participants reviewed progress and lessons learned from DDR programming, discussed updates to the Integrated DDR Standards (IDDRS), and explored pathways to harmonize it with regional and national standards. The meeting concluded with the adoption of the 2024/2025 Annual Action Plan, recommendations on enhancing synergy and coordination among members, as well as welcoming BICC as the IDDRTG co-chair for (2024-2026).
The 20th Annual Meeting was followed by the IDDRTG Extraordinary Meeting, during 6 – 7 March 2024 under the theme “Advancing Regionally and Nationally Owned DDR Processes: A Path to Stability, Recovery and Lasting Peace,” which examined the implications of regionalized armed conflicts on DDR processes in Africa. Discussions focused on recent developments, including the growing role of African-led Peace Support Operations (PSOs) and the revised AU Policy on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, with an emphasis on cross-border DDR collaboration. The meeting also provided a platform for sharing good practices and challenges in nationally-owned, regionally-led DDR efforts.
