Dr. Theresia Thylin has two decades of experience that combines intellectual, strategic and managerial leadership in the field of gender across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus.
She has served different UN entities (including UN Women, UNTF, UN-LiREC and UNRWA), governmental agencies and women’s organizations in LAC, MENA, Africa, Europe and HQ (NY and GVA).
Dr. Thylin served as a Gender Expert with the Colombian Agency for Reintegration of Ex-combatants (2009-2012). She holds a PhD from the University of Essex and her thesis focused on the multiple constructions of gender among ex-combatants and focused on both women, men and LGBT ex-combatants in Colombia. As a scholar, she has published innovative research on LGBT (ex)combatants as well as on humanitarian issues. She has been part of the IAWG DDRs expert group on gender and was also engaged in the review of the IDDRS.
Dr Thylin currently works with UN Women, where she has served as Humanitarian Adviser/Head of Humanitarian Unit a.i and as Head of Humanitarian Research. She has also worked with UN-LiREC in Peru, UNRWA in Jordan and UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women in New York. She has extensive experience in strategy, reporting, coordination, capacity-building, advocacy, programme design, implementation and management across the nexus.
She speaks English, Spanish and Swedish fluently, and has basic knowledge of French.
